Fort Bend Independent

Fort Bend County has several sources for news, yet there is a need for a point of view that is independent in the true sense of the word.

Fort Bend Independent, a paid subscription paper, and Independent News as a weekly community newspaper serve major portions of Fort Bend County.

The Independent is supported by local community members and was conceived by an experienced journalist with decade long contacts and professional experience with the Fort Bend communities.

The Independent promises to be a valuable supplement for people who rely on the media for information. The editor and publisher is Seshadri Kumar, a journalist with more than 30 years of local and international experience in Fort Bend, the US, India and the Middle East.

After nearly a decade as both a reporter and editor of the Fort Bend Sun, I began contributing articles to the neighborhood news section of the Houston Chronicle until the formation of Fort Bend Independent. I am also the editor and partner of India Herald, a weekly newspaper serving the Indian community in the Houston area.

Independent News is a broadsheet newspaper in four-color format with a weekly distribution of 40,000 copies to Fort Bend homes.

It covers Sugar Land, Missouri City, and Stafford along with communities like First Colony, Riverstone, and Sienna Plantation.

Distribution covers zip codes 77459, 77469, 77477, 77478 and 77479.

The editorial content focuses on various neighborhoods and will cover cities, school districts and civic organizations as well as local politics, crime and businesses.

Special features of interest to different age groups will be included on a regular basis and readers will be provided an opportunity to express their views and opinions.

We encourage everyone to exercise their right to free speech.

We believe that there is a need for printed newspapers in this era where instant news is touted on the Internet. The emerging influence of the Internet and online news is a fact of life.

The printed newspaper can complement Internet news which is often called “journalism in a hurry”.

The printed newspaper provides in depth journalism and the difference will be in content and how it is presented, “Fair, Balanced and Informative”.

Read the Independent and be informed.
